There are a lot of these countries that have a brainwashing effect on the minds of young delivered souls. First there are the United States. If you send your small 16- or 17-year old children there, it depends only a little on their individual constitution, that they are becoming affected by their new parentless surrounding. They start waving the american flag in their head, the american lifestyle gets into their head without any compromise.
Well that’s not only an american thing, it’s a general tendency. Germans tend to send their children abroad for getting to know another culture and another language. But besides these children are not mentally strengthened enough to stand that journey. In earlier times you had to cope with your own german world, you had to struggle with all that, there was no escape and that was the best thing that could happen. Abroad is another world, a better world, no fights, just visit. This leads to an idealised idea of that country and a yearlong yearning for going back. All memories are goldened. Well, this must not define their later life. But in some cases it does, especially in the American and in the Israelian. There are crude glorifications in need to stand against all the latent hostility. Of course it’s not real hostile behaviour that they feel offended by, but these countries regard themselves often as misunderstood and misinterpreted by the media or by the simple man on the street. So these former children have to fight for their beliefs, for this one world that first gave them a shelter in this harsh ignorant world.
